The
Fit Community initiative is a designation and grants program that promotes a
more holistic approach to address obesity in North Carolina. Both program components
encourage a range of location-based strategies aimed at schools, worksites and the
general community.
In each municipality or county, diverse community leaders – health officials, planners,
parks and recreation officials, business leaders, nonprofit organizations and others
– work together to provide programs, create policies and develop environments that
support healthy lifestyles for their citizens.
The program is comprised of a designation program and a grants program, both of
which encourage community-based approaches to address obesity in North Carolina.
